Manufacturing ERP Software in Coimbatore: What GK Industries Automated

Key Takeaways
- •A manufacturing ERP pays off when it removes double entry between the shop floor, the weighbridge, sales and accounts.
- •For GK Industries, ICore connected biometric attendance, weighbridge, GST e-way bill and e-invoice, BOM-linked quotations, PEB quotations and IndiaMART leads; the complete system went live in about 5–6 months.
- •Quotations built from the bill of materials let the sales team price from real material and labour costs.
- •ICore manufacturing ERP starts from ₹75,000 per module, on Odoo, ERPNext or custom ERP.
Coimbatore is one of India's biggest manufacturing centres: pumps and motors, foundries, textile machinery, auto components, wet grinders and engineering fabrication. Most of these businesses run on a mix of accounting software, spreadsheets, a weighbridge register, paper attendance and WhatsApp. Manufacturing ERP software replaces that mix with one system. The best way to show what that means in practice is a real project.
The project: complete automation for GK Industries
GK Industries asked ICore for complete automation of the business, not just accounts. We built and connected:
- Biometric attendance integration: punches from the attendance devices flow into the ERP, so HR and payroll work from the same records.
- Weighbridge automation: weights from the weighbridge are captured into the ERP directly, instead of being read off a display and typed in.
- GST e-way bill and e-invoice: generated from the ERP when goods are dispatched and invoiced.
- Custom quotations connected with the BOM and manufacturing: a quotation is built from the bill of materials, and once accepted it carries through into production.
- Separate PEB quotations: pre-engineered building jobs get their own quotation format, because they are priced differently from standard products.
- IndiaMART integration: enquiries from IndiaMART land in the ERP's CRM automatically.
- Round-robin lead assignment: each new lead goes to the next salesperson in turn, so no enquiry sits unassigned and the work is shared evenly.
The complete system went live in about 5–6 months, rolled out department by department.
Why each connection matters
Attendance to payroll
When attendance lives in a device and payroll lives in a spreadsheet, someone re-keys it every month. Connecting the biometric devices to the ERP removes that step and the errors that come with it.
Weighbridge to stock and dispatch
For businesses that buy or sell by weight, the weighbridge reading is the number everything else depends on: the goods receipt, the stock level, the invoice. Capturing it automatically closes the gap where weights get mistyped or adjusted.
GST from the ERP, not the portal
- E-invoice: businesses with aggregate annual turnover above ₹5 crore must generate e-invoices for B2B sales, registered on the government's Invoice Registration Portal, which returns an IRN and a QR code. Since 1 April 2025, businesses with turnover of ₹10 crore or more must report each invoice within 30 days of its date.
- E-way bill: needed for moving goods worth more than ₹50,000 in one consignment. When the ERP generates it from the invoice or delivery, nobody retypes vehicle and value details on the portal.
Quoting from the bill of materials
In engineering and fabrication, a quotation is only as good as its costing. Linking quotations to the BOM means the sales team quotes from current material and labour costs, and an accepted quote becomes a manufacturing order without being rewritten.
Leads that never go cold
IndiaMART is a major source of B2B enquiries for Coimbatore manufacturers. Pulling those enquiries into the CRM and assigning them round robin means every lead has an owner from the first minute.
What a manufacturing ERP should cover
| Area | What it should do |
|---|---|
| Sales and CRM | Enquiries from IndiaMART and the website, quotations from the BOM, order tracking |
| Purchase | RFQs, purchase orders, supplier confirmations, goods receipt with weighbridge readings |
| Inventory | Raw material, work in progress and finished goods by location |
| Manufacturing | BOMs, production orders, material consumption, quality checks |
| Accounts and GST | Invoices, e-invoice IRN, e-way bills, receivables and payables |
| HR and payroll | Biometric attendance, leave, salary |
Odoo, ERPNext or custom?
We build manufacturing ERP on all three. Odoo and ERPNext both include manufacturing, BOM and stock apps that cover the standard flow; integrations like the weighbridge, biometric devices and BOM-linked quotations are added as custom modules. When a process is far from the standard, a custom ERP is the better fit. Our guides to Odoo implementation and ERPNext implementation explain the trade-offs.
Cost
ERP implementation with ICore starts from ₹75,000 per module, and a module typically goes live in 3–4 weeks. Odoo Enterprise carries a separate licence; Odoo Community, ERPNext and custom ERP do not. Integrations such as the weighbridge, biometric devices, GST and IndiaMART are scoped in the quote.
